Commonwealth Games 2010 Theme Song : Not upto Expectations ?

A R Rahman unveiled his Commonwealth Games theme song composition yesterday which has got mixed reviews so far, however you must know what they say about A R Rahman music, that is more you hear his tune, the more you get to like it.

CWG Organising Committee's Executive Board member V K Malhotra is the first big name who was not impressed by the song and has appealed for rework on the song. "This song has fallen short of expectations. We had a expected a better anthem for the Games from a composer of Rahman's status," Malhotra said.

However, there are large number of people who are satisfied with the song and already looking for the lyrics to remember and sing it to impress others.

One of our readers wrote to us, 'Whenever something big happens, it is bound to receive different reviews as all of us different and have different needs'. Another reader named Aman wrote that 'It is not possible for great Rahman to please everybody all the time with his work, although I'm pretty happy with tune and already making an attempt to remember the song'.

Rahman unveiled the song yesterday in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda and CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi .

"I feel honoured to get the opportunity to compose the theme song for the mega-event. It was not an easy task. I had started composing it six months ago and finished just last night," Rahman said after the launch.

It seems that Malhotra has heard too much of Waka Waka bu Shakira and was expecting something on those lines however the most talented composer of the country AR Rahman delivers his masterpiece in his own style which would please many except Malhotra.

I expected more from ar rahman. The song should have been made with more english so that it can widely spread to all countries. This cannot beat waka waka or jai ho.

When i heard this song first it was like an average song from rahman
but as i heard a couple of times more i felt it is another nice song from ar
it might not be like the other hit songs of ar but on a whole itz good
    worth listening
  • wonderful song. remove waka waka from ur mind and listen to this song. this song is one of the best songs in indian history. arr rockzzzzzz
  • August 30, 2010 at 6:06 AM
I also think that this is not the AR's best job. I am not expert in evaluation but if I directly compare AR's song 'Vande Mataram' with this one then I can say for sure. AR's songs usually have great ups and downs in rythm with extraordinary composition and great thrilling sensation, this song is definetly missing things.
As per my experience of listening this one for the first time I was expecting great peak after soft start and also great chorus in background.
Well, for now I didn't like it. Still one factor may able change my opinion, and thats the quality of song... I guess, it may be possible of having low quality song uploaded on net.
And if this is the final and the best quality then... I don't know I still can't believe it that its AR... He always tend to do best... He is literally GOD of music in my oppinion, a real master... But I can't say the same for this one... I hope there must be something more or another version of this song.

what waka waka was good song????????????????????

I say this song is better than shit song waka waka.

Waka waka was like kaw kaw sung by crow singer Shakira

Listen to those songs 4 to 5 times then you will like it.

And if you are A.R.Rahman hater then I am sorry no way you will like this song.

Because for A.R.Rahman haters anything he composes will be bad only.

A R RAHMAN THE EMPEROR OF MUSIC...... LISTEN TO THE SONG FEW TIMES... THEN YOU WILL THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS IN THIS CENTURY.... WHAT A SONG HE HAS GIVEN. WOW.. PLEASE DO NOT COMPARE WITH 'WAKA' WAKA'... ,
  • August 30, 2010 at 12:00 PM
Not sure why people compare with "Waka Waka". Common guys.. There is a hell lot of difference btwn Indian and Africal Culture. You can never expect "Waka Waka" from an Indian Musician. We have our own culture. Lets show to the world what Indian music is .

Someone was pointing on this line "India Bula liya" . According to me this is what "Swagath" means.AR has composed this song in such a way that it starts with a "Welcome/Swagath". He is the maestro.

I bet , this is the next hit.
  • August 30, 2010 at 12:05 PM
WHY English ? Its hindi which is our national language and not English dude . Be proud to be an Indian. Remember, it was "Jaiho" which won the Oscar and not the damn piece of shit "Waka Waka"
  • don't blame rahman,, first all of u people just hear it... wow... master piece..
  • August 31, 2010 at 2:58 AM

  • August 31, 2010 at 5:25 PM
Please stop comparing with "waka waka".cwg delhi is an indian event, we need to be proud at everything which is indian. the song is very much ours with a global appeal.

those who are criticising Arr should answer one question. Name a rahman songs which you liked instantly? the "honeymoon " period of lets go may be long buts sure this song is going to stay for ever(like an everlasting marriage!)

Now even a deaf can post/ blog/ report that lets go is not up to mark- every one before commenting on lets go ask a question to yourself am i listening to rahmans songs before? if no is the answer then wait for few more days, listen for few times more then comment

latest divine comedy- Arr was asked to tweak his composition by cwg executive commitee.

Its good and perhaps need more fast pace.

I have been listening to A.R. since 1990. Believe me, I know what he is capable of. In my opinion he has fallen short of the expectations of the "quality" listeners. To start with, the lyrics is below average (Mr. Gulzar would have been the best option as the lyricist). The rap is the interlude by Blaaze is now turning a routine for Rahman; he should have avoided that and should have instead added a 4-parts piece by his K.M. Music conservatory Choir. Thirdly and most importantly, Rahman should not have used the "high-pitch" applications throughout the song. What I expected was a bit of a melody with some great Indian rhythm loops, mixed with some Indianised synthesized sounds, and a childrens chorus as a topping!!!!I am proud to say that I am one of the biggest hardcore fans of A.R., but I should admit that A.R. has dissappointed me this time.
  • August 31, 2010 at 8:05 PM
yeah his music is getting lower in quality by the day. but i think this song is good enough but needs more exposure to people . if the video is filmed with a lot of colours and people it will surely be a revelation.
  • August 31, 2010 at 8:14 PM
let us have our heads high. i think india is a country or the only country to have people who make their own country look bad with their comments and portraying india in the wrong way for the world. we should not let our country down.i think we should be more united in the issues like cwg song and cwg oc and be positive about them.
  • September 1, 2010 at 1:48 AM
I feel this song is not worth to be a theme song, may be its beacause of the poor lyrics. I feel some thing like "Comeon India Dikha do... Duniya ko Jukaa do... " can realy be motivative and deserve to be the theme song...Anyways, Being a host country lets hope CWG goes well thats it.
  • September 1, 2010 at 8:34 AM
THERE IS NO COMPARISON FOR RAHMAN'S MUSIC. IT COMES DIRECTLY FROM HEAVEN. CWG SHOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE ONE. I HEARD IT THOUSAND TIMES AND STILL HEARING. MAGNETIC VOICE OF RAHMAN IS OUTSTANDING.
  • September 1, 2010 at 10:16 AM
fuk you all those people who didnt like the song....its the real anthem!!the transitions are superb...the use of tunes...beats...rock...rap evrything...its the ultimate anthem...if CWG doesnt need the song, they can fuk off...but we cant!!we are there for u Rahman...we know ur music...Don listen to malhotra,he only want to see shakiras ass...A R Rahman is gr8 forever...
  • this is a great song and AR music is original ,... people comparing music or any sort of creativity have no credential to be a critic and people comparing it with waka or any other song shd keep thier headdown !!
  • September 1, 2010 at 10:51 AM
Please don't compare it with the rubbish Waka Waka.Listen the theme of "Chariots of Fire".You will find this one sperior.Nothing could be better than this for the sports event.
  • September 1, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Sub standard (Rahman standard and any other standard) song; And to think he was paid such a huge amount (figure varies but least is 5 crores) for this song.

I'm a huge Rahman fan and truly believe that if he had devoted atleast a week for this one, he could have come up with something much better.

I truly feel depressed that this song will be showcasing India and Rahman himself in front of the whole world during the CWGs.

A song specially in a foreign language should atleast be catchy, so that who ever is hearing it will be interested. Sadly this is not.

I would gladly have Chale Chalo (from Lagaan) as the CWG theme song than this one.. And thats just an example from already existing songs..... Sorry Rahman.. U've really failed us on this one..
  • September 1, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Rahman Bhai.. We are proud that u r an Indian. But the song SUCKS...........

This was your one chance to let the whole world listen to your magic, ur skill, ur talent. Sadly u dint deliver.

The song is not in mood with a sports theme song. There are certain moods for each event. U cannot play the greatest funeral song ever for a marriage. Similarly, this doesnt sound anything like a sports song. I dont know what it sounds like, but its definitely not sports. Maybe for rakshabandan, but not for a high voltage sporting event.

Again.. We are proud that u r an Indian. But the song $***$.
