Endhiran - Robot Movie Review, Rating
There is no such thing, they say, as global warming. Rajnikanth was feeling cold, so he turned the sun up. Now imagine what happens when Super Rajni takes the avatar of a robot. The turn should actually browbeat the dictionary guys into deleting the word ‘ impossible’ from their pages for good.
Shankar’s new film is magnificent... sorry, make that ‘Rajnificent’. Despite the hi- tech gloss and sleek parcelling you get all along, you’ll primarily carry home the superstar’s super act from this out- and- out entertainer. Rajnikanth is 60, botoxed and crowned with a range of wigs. And he still rocks.
In Robot , Rajnikanth plays a scientist who invents an andro- humanoid robot. For the record and if you still haven’t got it, Super Rajni is playing both scientist and robot here.
Which means, he gets to sing, dance, fight, romance, cry, yell, joke and mouth bombastic lines of course — but then what’s so special, he does as much in every film you would say.
So, Robot gives the fiercely loyal fan base an all- new Rajnikanth with extra features. Imageboosting accessories for the superstar in his new avatar include an electricity diet and a fire resistant body, besides the skill to run on one side of a moving train and hands that morph into an arsenal of guns.
You could find a thousand logical flaws in this ‘ sciencefiction’. Or, you could simply sit back and enjoy as the year’s biggest entertainer plays on, extravagantly explosive in a trademark Shankar way.
Rajnikanth botoxed crowned wide range wigs. The script is basic, tailormade to let Rajnikanth razzle. Scientist Vasi invents a state- of- the- art robot that resembles him.
The robot, Chitti, seems quite fun to begin with. Till Dr Vasi decides to integrate human emotions into Chitti’s ‘brain’. The outcome is Chitti falls in love with Sana ( Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Vasi’s lover. And then begins the scientist’s problems, as he discovers that his own invention — a zillion times smarter and stronger than him — could actually destroy him, with the help of an evil scientist (Danny Denzongpa).
Robot predictably banks on a simplistic story, for its makers to cash in on the Super Rajni craze. The film proves that Rajni still has what it takes, returning three years after his last blockbuster, Sivaji The Boss . Beyond Rajnikanth, the film also thrills because there is not a dull moment.
Of course, beyond Rajnikanth, there’s Ash too. Chances are that you would be scrambling for cover every time she starts off with a dance sequence in one of those garish costumes.
