Farmers protest in capital, expect heavy traffic jam in Delhi today
There would certainly be addition to the traffic quandary today which is already an issue due to the water logging everywhere in the capital city following by the heavy rain fall experienced.
Around 10K - 12K farmers would bring their anger and frustration to the Capital and protest against the forceful acquisition of land for the Yamuna Expressway. The main issue behind the protest is the money they are getting for the land taken away from them is too low. They also want the government to amend the Land Acquisition Act. Farmers would also be protesting against the police firing, in which three farmers were killed.
Farmers would be arriving from all parts of Uttar Pradesh and you can expect large number of tractors in this protest planning to 'gherao' the State Assembly.
Delhi police has plans to minimize the traffic chaos and instructed the motorists to avoid the stretch between Ramlila Maidan, Rajghat, Barakhamba Road, Ranjit Singh Marg, Tolstoy Marg, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Daryaganj and Chandni Chowk today.
Adding more to the traffic problems, Yamuna river water is continue to rise and has already crossed the danger mark by 1 meter. More than 200 people from low lying areas have been evacuated and over 1,500 persons have been relocated to 150 relief camps set up in various parts of the city.
