Krishna Janmashtami 2010 : Celebration time for some, big money for others



Krishna Janmashtami would be celebrated around the country on 1st September by the Smartha Sects Brahmins and on 2nd September 2010 by the Brahmins who form the part of the Vaishnava Sects. The whole country is getting ready for the major event and celebrations.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami with great show on both the days at its centre and Krishna Lila Theme Park in Bangalore. Sri Sankara TV channel plans to telecast Sri Krishna Janamashtami celebrations for 48 hours on September 1 and 2. Sri Sankara TV, in association with ISKCON, Bangalore, will bring the entire programme live for 48 hours.

On the other hand, Dahi-Handi celebration which arrives in Mumbai during Janmashtami is all set to get big monet to the winner participant(s). The biggest prize money was Rs. 21 lakh till last year, however it is set to rise three times this year.

There would be over 600 Govinda troops with an average total of 10 lakh participants who would be participating in Dahi-Handi for the prize money. Jitendra Ahwad, the organiser of Sangarsh Dahi Handi and NCP MLC, Maharashtra Assembly said that the prize money would still not be enough against the kind of risks the boys take during the celebration.
