CWG 2010 Medal Tally : Krishna Poonia wins 30th gold for India

Krishna Poonia created history when she won India's first Commonwealth Games athletics gold medal in 52 years today in the women's discus throw event. Krishna won the gold with a throw of 61.51 metres while Harwant Kaur & Seema Antil of India bagged Silver & Bronze with 60.16m & 58.46m respectively.

Surprisingly, Defending champion Elizna Naude of South Africa finished seventh. The roar that reverberated around Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium when each of the three Indian throwers stepped into the ring doubled in intensity when the crowd greeted the three medals' triumph.

Poonia's gold, which she won by throwing the discus, was the first gold after 'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh's 440 yard race gold in the 1958 edition of the Games in Cardiff, Wales.

India is ahead of England by 4 Medals in terms of Gold Medals however when it comes to total number of medals England has won 106 compared to India's 81 so far, however India seems firm on that second spot and its atheletes are having the dream run which means we could finish off the competition on the second spot as there are just 3 more days left for the Games.
