Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010 Medal Tally : India wins 14th Gold



Wrestler Geeta brings India its 14th Gold Medal today after winning the 55kg freestyle wrestling event in the Commonwealth Games. Geeta outshine the Australian opponent Emily Bensted in the final. Lovina Edward of Nigeria won the bronze in the event.

In shooting, Vijay Kumar and Gurpreet Singh started the day on a winning note after they clinched gold medal in 25m rapid fire pistol pairs event. Gurpreet Singh with Omakr Singh also won gold in the men's 10-metre air pistol pairs event after Ronjon Sodhi added another medal for the hosts as he bagged silver in singles Double Trap shooting event which was won by England's Stevan Walton.

World champion Tejaswini Sawant and Lajja Gausami fell by the wayside in the 50m rifle 3 position singles. Gausami finished a lowly sixth after Tejaswini failed to qualify for the finals.

India still maintains its second rank with 14 Gold Medals, 10 Silver and 6 Bronze making the tally of 30 Medals so far where as Australia stands strong at the top with 58 Medals with 28 Gold, 16 Silver and 14 Bronze.
