Dawood’s man attacks Abu Salem in high security jail
Mafia don Abu Salem was assaulted by a Dawood Ibrahim gang member in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail on Saturday.
Salem was attacked by Mustaf Dossa as he was having breakfast. He was attacked on his face and neck with a spoon. Prison guards intervened swiftly and took Salem to a clinic inside the jail, where he was treated for minor injuries.
The reason for the attack remains unclear. But it is believed Dossa attacked Salem for leaving Dawood to set up his own gang. Salem is lodged in barrack number 10. Dossa, who was lodged in barrack number one, was recently shifted to barrack number 10. Barrack number one is under repairs.
Salem, extradited from Portugal in 2005, is a key accused in the 1993 serial blasts case. Dossa is the brother of prime serial blast accused Mohammed Dossa and is alleged to have participated in meetings in Dubai, where the plan was hatched.
Saturday’s incident comes on the heels of the leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse voicing concern in the assembly over the safety of 26/ 11 convict and Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Amir Qasab, who is being kept in an isolated cell of the highsecurity jail.
Khadse said Qasab was not safe in the jail anymore and any harm to him would be embarrassing for India.
