Asian Games 2010: India vs Pakistan Hockey Match Score Update

Arch rivals India and Pakistan their Group B hockey match where India lead the score tally by 1 goal as the score stand at 3-2 after 15 minutes of 2nd Half passed by. Sandeep Singh drew the first blood after which Rehan Butt of Pakistan scored the equalizer, however Dharamvir Singh scored another one to get India the lead of one goal in the first half.

Abbasi of Pakistan scored the equalizer in the second half after which Sandeep Singh converts the Penalty Corner and give India the lead of one goal.

India has been in super form in Asian Games however Two easy wins in the group stage against weak opponents like Hon Kong and Bangladesh means nothing to assess where the Indians stand. If India bags this match, they will reach the top of the group B and would avoid South Korea till final which gives team India a chance to bring home a gold Medal in Hockey.

DDA Housing Scheme 2010 : 16,000 Flats for all sections

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will offer 16,000 dwelling units ranging from posh threebedroom flats at Vasant Kunj worth over Rs 1 crore to one- room tenements at Narela costing above Rs 3 lakh.

The scheme starts on November 25 and the last date to submit application forms is December 24 and the forms would cost Rs 105. Any citizen of India above the age of 18 would be eligible to apply if he or she does not own a residential property in the Capital.

One person can submit only one application, unlike last time when a husband and wife could apply separately. However, if a couple gets two flats, they will be allotted possession of only one of them.

Officials said the flats are a lucrative proposition because they are well below the prevailing market rates by 50 to 80 per cent. While the cheapest flats are available at Rs 1,536 per sq ft, the more expensive ones are priced at Rs 6,069 per sq ft.

The draw for the flats would be held by the end of April 2011. DDA officials said to ensure that unscrupulous people do not use fronts to buy flats in name of other people they would forward all the details to the income tax department for verification.

A copy of the allottees’ bank passbook and certificates from the bank will have to be submitted at the time of possession, officials said. Applicants need to deposit an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh in favour of DDA Housing and submit their PAN card, a self- attested copy of their bank passbook and residence proof.

For the one room tenements a deposit of Rs 50,000 is required.

Out of the total number of flats, 17.5 per cent have been reserved for scheduled castes, 7.5 per cent for scheduled tribes and 1 per cent each for applicants who are war widows, physically handicapped or ex- servicemen.

The result of the computerised draw will be displayed on the DDA website while allotees will be dispatched letters through speed post. A waiting list of 600 candidates will also be prepared in case some applicants surrender their flats.

Unlike its previous schemes, the DDA is charging an extra 12 to 15 per cent on these flats as maintenance charge.

Guangzhou Asian Games 2010 Medal Tally : Boxer Dinesh assured of Bronze

Dinesh Kumar kept the Indian flag flying in the boxing ring at the distant Foshan gymnasium as he outpunched Korean Jinho Heo 10-6 to enter the 81kg semi-finals and assure himself of a bronze medal.

On a day when the rowers brought cheers to country, Dinesh was aggression personified as he showed a quick game and punched with good control.

The way Dinesh started, it appeared he wanted to mow down his opponent in the ring. In the first round, Dinesh was very quick as he clinched five points in style and lost two.

However, in the second round, Dinesh was a trifle complacent as he allowed Korean Heo to score a bit more freely. He got the right advice just before he returned to the arena for the third round. Even though both the boxers won just two points each, Dinesh finished comfortably ahead.

Twenty-two-year-old Dinesh comes from the famed boxing town of Bhiwani in Haryana and has kept the sport’s tradition alive. This is the place from where several boxers have also emerged before ands gone on to achieve Olympic glory.

In another bout on Friday, Vikas Krishan outclassed Amangeldi Hudaybergenov from Turkmenistan 8-1 to enter the last eight stage. Krishan began without any hesitation and won three points in the first round.

He then opened up further in the second round to take a 7-0 lead. However, in the last round, the Indian cut down on aggression and let Amangeldi win his first point before sealing the bout.

Guzaarish Movie Review : A Pulp Poetry

Think Bhansali, and you are thinking a peculiar mix of madness and melancholy. At a time when cinema in Bollywood is dabbling with everything but the old- school charm, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s idiom of pulp poetry makes his work unique.

Guzaarish is a rare film in that sense. This is Bhansali’s world of perfection, replete with beautiful people, beautiful locales, beautiful music. In sync with his cinematic style, suffering, pain and darkness are beautiful, too.

By now you must know that the film addresses the controversial issue of euthanasia. Elaborate pre-release hype has made it public knowledge that Guzaarish raises a pertinent question on a man’s right to take his own life if he so chooses to.

The hero in Guzaarish petitions for mercy killing because he is tired of leading a quadriplegic’s life. To that effect, Guzaarish is not an altogether novel Bhansali attempt at exploring the mind of a person who is suffering from disability. The director did it earlier with Khamoshi and Black . Shades of Khamoshi also flood your mind watching Aishwarya Rai- Bachchan as the female protagonist. You recall Manisha Koirala in that 1995 film, and her struggles to carry on a normal facade in her relationship with the sufferer in question.

By way of content, Guzaarish reminds you of Spanish maestro Alejandro Amenabar’s The Sea Inside and Eddy Terstall’s Dutch film Simon . In both films, the hero, suffering from incurable illness, campaigns for mercy killing. Bhansali however narrates a very different story using that inspiration. He crafts an original tale as he did with Black , which was based on the 1962 Anne Bancroft- starrer, The Miracle Worker . Bhansali’s script casts Hrithik as Ethan Mascarenhas, celebrated magician who is rendered paralysed neck downwards after a mishap. He takes up radio jockeying from his wheelchair to pass time. His closest companion is his nurse Sophia (Aishwarya), with whom he shares a bond that gradually evolves into pure love. Then one day, Ethan files a legal petition seeking mercy killing. Sophia can’t comprehend his decision, nor can Ethan’s doctor or lawyer.

A parallel sub- plot marks the entry of young Omar (Aditya Roy Kapoor), who dreams of being a top magician. He requests Ethan to teach him magic. The film works for the sensitivity with which Bhansali handles the issue of mercy killing. Yet, you spot disconnect. Despite a character drawn on the lines of classical tragedy, there is no attempt to explore the mind of Hrithik’s Ethan, a magician who no longer finds magic even in the simple things of life. The focus seems more on creating space for melodrama.

Bhansali elicits the most from his talented cast. Hrithik proves he has grown as an actor and star. Ash — despite playing a harried nurse who never seems to forget her lipstick and make- up — makes a strong impact. Shernaz Patel as Ethan’s lawyer is brilliant. And Aditya Roy Kapoor proves why he is the guy to watch out for.

WBUT Semester Exams Routine Announced

West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), Kolkata has published the Odd Semesters i.e. 1, 3, 5 and 7 Routine for the exams which are due to be held in December 2010. These routines can be checked on the official website of WBUT on www.wbut.net, under the announcements section. These routines contain the stream, paper code and paper name.

WBUT offers a multitude of degrees ranging from Undergraduate courses to doctoral programs. Contemporary courses on subjects like Business Administration have been included in the curriculum.

West Bengal University of Technology has divided the academic year in two semesters: Autumn and Spring. An end semester examination is conducted at the conclusion of each semester.

Pamela in Big Boss 4 : Viewers suspect reality

Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson's entering the Bigg Boss ring, the recent Sara Khan - Ali Merchant wedding row are attracting eyeballs to the reality shows, even as viewers are beginning to question if these shows are, in fact, a melange of reality and fiction or merely the latter. While reality shows target homemakers and the youth as their primary audience, such shows are becoming increasingly outrageous, objectionable and unbelievable to be real anymore, they believe.

" Reality shows are not real. It's fairly obvious that they are scripted and exaggerated simply for entertainment value. They're farcical, but people still watch them, only for lack of better options," says 20- year- old Kabir Mehta.

Sensationalized scenes, daily scandals and lurid content are the basic ingredients of these shows, and that is what makes viewers question just how ' real' they are.

"Reality can tend to become boring and mundane. No one wants to watch a show that is slow-moving and lacks action, even if it stars celebrities. What keeps audiences coming back is high drama. And reality cannot always provide this high drama, which is why producers brazenly infuse their shows with fictitious situations and allow it to masquerade as reality.

Personally, I refuse to watch them because as a viewer, my intelligence is affronted," opines 22- year old Nauheed Tambawala.

Geetanjali Sharma, a 34-year-old homemaker, is a loyal fan of most Indian reality shows. " It doesn't matter to me whether they are real or not. It's something interesting and exciting to watch while I'm doing my daily chores, and that's good enough". Several like her also follow these shows for the same reason: entertainment.

Guzaarish Movie Review : Watch it for Hrithik & Aishwarya

It is tale of a man who is seeking mercy death after he was confined to a wheel chair when one of the magic tricks went supremely wrong. Guzaarish contains dark humor and lot of emotions with one of the masterpiece of direction and acting skills.

The story of the movie surround Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan) who suffers serious injuries when one of his magical trick goes horribly wrong after which he is confined to a wheel chair and later on becomes a Radio Jockey at an FM Station called Radio Zindagi.

His show talks of hope, laughter and sunshine and it's difficult to imagine that the man behind it has been immobilized with a spinal injury for the last fourteen years of his life. Sofia (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), a nurse, takes good care of him, they also share the unshared love. Ethan files a petition in court for mercy killing and takes the help of friend-lawyer Devyani [Shernaz Patel] to support his appeal. Even Ethan's mother Isabel [Nafisa Ali] supports him in his petition, although Ethan is persuaded by his physician Dr. Nayak [Suhel Seth] to retract his case.

This 2 hours 15 minutes Drama would provide you everything you seek in a movie from brilliant acting, direction, dialogues, sets and locations. This is aclaimed as the Hrithik Roshan 's best performance so far where as Aishwarya looks like stunning picture of fire and grace, walking away with certain scenes by her sheer vitality. This is the must watch for the true cinema and icing on the cake is this is also Bhansali's debut as a music director.

We will give 4 out of 5 to this another great epic of Bhansali.
